What's going on? What's happening? Salem is in a tragic situation, Salem witch trials are getting popular and more people are starting to be accused without any evidence. There are mostly 40 accusers and every day these numbers are increasing exponentially, how many accusers can this situation reach? Until what point it will stop? These are some questions that people could be asking, they are scared of being accused, they are afraid because everyone is accusing others without reason, only with the purpose of protecting themselves. When these people get accused most of them get shocked but also mostly confess of witchcraft (even tough they are innocent) so that they go to jail or get "exiled" of Salem instead of getting hanged.
In Act 2 there's a clear example presented, Elizabeth and Abigail. The event started when Elizabeth's maid, Marry Warren gave her a doll. This doll was a gift made by Marry to her but Elizabeth thought of using it for other purpose. Days later Abigail accused Elizabeth because she was trying to kill her with a needle inside a doll! But the question is, what evidence does Abigail has about Elizabeth? Is true that Abigail saw her spirit when she saw the needle but that makes it a reliable evidence? The truth is that Cheever went to Elizabeth's house to see if there was a needle on a doll, and he found it! He was going to arrest Elizabeth but she rapidly said something to Marry Warren and she said it was her fault, is Marry Warren the real fraud or did Elizabeth order Marry to say it was her fault so that she doesn't get involved in problems? In conclusion, this is a clear example of what's going on in Salem, people accusing others to get rid of problems without having any real proof.
